PHYSOCARPUS

Ninebark (Physocarpus) in 1.5 L pot
A tough garden shrub with late-spring blooms and decorative peeling bark

Ninebark (Physocarpus) is an ornamental garden shrub from the rose family. It comes in a 1.5 L container and can go into the ground at any point in the growing season.

Flower clusters from late spring into early summer
Ninebark flowers in dense, rounded clusters of white or pink, usually in May and June. The nectar-rich blooms draw pollinating insects, and reddish seed heads follow once flowering is over.
Peeling bark keeps it decorative through winter
On mature stems the bark peels away in layers, which is where the name ninebark comes from. The shrub is deciduous, and once the leaves drop, the textured bark and arching branches keep it attractive through winter.
Cold-hardy shrub that needs little care
Ninebark copes with very low winter temperatures and grows well from full sun to part shade in well-drained soil. Use it as a hedge, in a border or as a stand-alone specimen. Any pruning should be done right after flowering, since next year's blooms form on old wood.
