The TFA compost thermometer is an analogue garden thermometer with a stainless steel probe and a -10 to +90 °C scale. The 40 cm probe goes straight into the heap, while the large round dial is read from above without bending down. It arrives ready to use and needs no batteries.
40 cm probe reaches the core of the heap
Active decomposition happens in the middle of the pile, not on the surface. The pointed probe is pushed into several spots in turn, giving a separate reading for each one so you can see where the process is working and where the material is still cold.
-10 to +90 °C scale covers the whole rotting cycle
The range covers both a cold winter heap and the hot phase where temperatures climb highest. The reading tells you whether the pile needs water, turning or more air.
Stainless steel built for permanent outdoor use
Housing and probe are made entirely of stainless steel, resistant to moisture and to the acidic environment of decomposing material. The thermometer can stay in the composter between readings.
