The STIHL AX 30 C cleaving hammer is a hand tool for splitting firewood, with a 3 kg forged head and an overall length of 850 mm. Its reversible lug and enlarged striking face let you split and drive wedges, while the ash handle keeps the swing balanced. It suits limbed trunks, long and hard timber, and wedge-assisted felling.
Reversible lug for splitting and wedge work
One end of the head splits the log, while the opposite face offers an extra-large striking surface for driving aluminium and plastic wedges safely. That covers both splitting and wedge work on knotty or stubborn rounds. STIHL advises against driving steel splitting wedges with this hammer.
Forged 3 kg head for hard, long timber
The head mass loads the blade at impact and carries through beech, oak and long seasoned rounds. At 850 mm the tool gives a full two-handed swing from a stable stance.
Ash handle that absorbs the shock
Ash fibres flex on impact and damp the recoil to the hands during longer splitting sessions. A wooden handle can also be replaced instead of scrapping the whole tool.
